US once more labels Yemen’s Houthis a ‘world terrorist’ group | Transport information

The US authorities has formally designated Yemen’s Houthi rebels as a “terrorist” group.

Washington on Wednesday re-listed the group as “specifically designated world terrorists” after the US launched strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen in response to the group’s assaults on ships within the Crimson Sea.

The Houthis say their operations are focusing on ships linked to Israel and that they may proceed attacking targets till Israel’s struggle on Gaza ends.

“In response to those continued threats and assaults, the US has introduced the designation of Ansarallah, also called the Houthis, as a Specifically Designated International Terrorist,” White Home Nationwide Safety Advisor Jake Sullivan stated in an announcement.

“This designation is a crucial device to hinder the financing of terrorism to the Houthis, additional prohibit their entry to monetary markets and maintain them accountable for his or her actions.”

The designation will not take impact for 30 days, Sullivan stated. “If the Houthis stop their assaults within the Crimson Sea and Gulf of Aden, the US will instantly reevaluate this designation.”
